“The paintings investigate mood. They are a physical and emotional response to the environment, expressed through the gesture of the marks made, through colour and composition. The representation of the landscape incorporates and reflects human emotions and dilemmas, containing metaphorical undercurrents. This environment is ambiguous, only containing trace elements of recognisable places. These works contain a personal response to the environment and a strong cathartic element, exploring through gesture the symbolic elements in the landscape and for echoes of the artist’s memories. William Crozier would be a strong influence for his sense of colour and composition also Turner and Bonnard”
